Traditional folk music, dance and customs - Harrogate, North Yorkshire - Chas Marshall's Website

The Stean Cottage Band

The Stean Cottage Band an occasional mini band for ceilidhs and concerts with just three musicians - Nick Barber, Mary Barber and Chas Marshall. Mary plays violin, Chas plays anglo concertina and Nick plays melodeon and horn (but not necessarily at the same time!). For ceilidhs we generally try to secure the services of Ryburn 3 Step's wonderful dance caller and step dancer Sue Coe. The band, and its name, arose out of traditional music sessions held in Stean and Harrogate.

We play dance music from North Yorkshire and anywhere else we can find it - including in Nick's head! Here are some video recordings on Youtube taken at the How Stean Gorge Folk Night in January 2014 and at Harrogate Tourist Information Centre on Yorkshire Day..

Thank you Stean Cottage Band!

Good evening Nick, Mary, Chas and Sue,

So I am finally getting around to sorting out my thank yous from the wedding and I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you ever so much for the absolutely fantastic ceilidh you guys did for us for our wedding. You were a lovely band, exactly how I pictured it and you guys were brilliant. The music was wonderful and the calling was spot on – perfect explanations and brilliant at getting people up and dancing. I've been to a few ceilidh's and I've got to say you guys are one of the best I've seen. I'll definitely be keeping you in mind for future events. It was a pleasure to have you at our wedding, it was absolutely fab and I just wanted to say – THANK YOU!!

I wish you all the best for the future. Kind regards, Dominique

Thanks you very much for a superb evening, a good time was had by all!! Thank you for your expertise, your music but most of all for your patience, it was a fabulous event which hopefully will be repeated!! Thanks again. Joy x
